This is a brand new initiative about which we are very excited. OUTA saw all the common issues facing Joburg residents and decided to start up a Community Action Network (CAN) specifically for Joburg, forming an "Association of Associations". As a group, it is the aim to work alongside the City to ensure service delivery, which is what they are mandated to do. Failing that, the group will be able to work together to escalate issues in order for services to be delivered. As a newly launched initiative in September 2023, the first item to be tackled is to challenge the new rates enforced by COJ. We look forward to partnering with them on this drive and future initiatives.
The LHRA took on the project of repainting the kerb street names! Thank you to those residents who contributed directly to this project and to those who paid their subs, which enabled the LHRA to match the donations received and hence complete the project.
Over the past few years, the LHRA has been establishing a relationship with City Parks and Zoo (JCPZ) in response to the devastation that has happened to the trees of Houghton by the Polyphagous Shot Hole Borer (PSHB).
One of City Park’s plans to deal with the loss of these trees was to do mass planting in the areas affected by it. City Parks delivered over 600 trees to our suburb to be planted, known for their resistance to PSHB.
